Call to Artists!

2009 Manchester Arts Festival
Call for Artists
Dear Artist/Artisan...
As I write this letter, snow is piled up, and the thought of organizing a Summer Arts festival seems a bit bizarre. The truth is, warmer days are on their way... really... I promise. Because organizing a successful event takes a good amount of planning and logistics, I am sending this letter out now, to invite you to apply to participate in the Manchester Arts Festival which will take place on Saturday July 25th, 2009 in the downtown of Manchester-by-the-Sea. All applications are reviewed, and the work approved by a jury panel. We have great hopes for this year's event, with diverse live entertainment, children's activities and a comprehensive advertising plan to draw from a large regional pool. We will also be featuring a "plein air" fresh paint contest with generous cash prizes (details to follow).

As you may have heard, last year's festival was hugely successful, and took place on a picture perfect, New England Summer day. The streets of Manchester-by-the-Sea were crowded with hundreds of happy people enjoying the beautiful day as well as the fine works, crafts and wares. The scenic parks with views of the harbor, the streets and common were bustling with Artists, patrons and browsers, and music filled the air. The many letters and emails we received (as well as letters-to-the-editor featured in local newspapers) following the day, communicated unanimous appreciation for the event from visitors, locals and exhibitors alike.

We hope you will add the Manchester Arts Festival to your busy Summer calendar. This will be a one day event. This year a boxed lunch menu (application page 4) has been added for your convenience. Thanks to Chris Shea and The Landing Restaurant, we will be taking orders for, then delivering to your display area, a fresh boxed lunch during the event, if you so desire. Boxed lunches will be ten dollars each. As in the past, volunteers with water and fruit will be available, and can watch your display when needed. We hope the lunches will assist in making this an enjoyable, as well as profitable, day.

Please DO NOT DELAY. Though this may seem early, time passes quickly, and we have a lot of work to do in organizing this event.

Additionally, please feel free to forward the MAF Application for Entry 2009.pdf to any artists/artisans you feel would be good additions to our event. We anticipate adding approximately 35 quality entrants to the current offerings.

Please call or email with any questions regarding the details.
