Amazon Guide: So you'd like to... Knit Beautiful Lace

I've been knitting for over forty years but I only started knitting lace about ten years ago. I fell in love and have been knitting lace ever since. This is how I got started:

Shawls and Scarves: The Best of Knitter's Magazine (Best of Knitter's Magazine series) This was the first book about knitting lace I ever purchased. I had a copy of the magazine that several of the designs in this book were from and the first projects I made were the Faroese Shawls by Myrna Stahman. I have not stopped knitting lace since.

Stahman's Shawls and Scarves: Lace Faroese-Shaped Shawls from the Neck Down & Seamen's Scarves This book is a classic. Myrna's shawls are both elegant and warm and practical.

A Gathering of Lace Possibly the most beautiful book about knitting lace there is. The Mediterranean Shawl and the Frost Flowers Shawl are worth the price alone.

Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns, and Traditions This book is a relatively new but the techniques are ancient and extraordinary. No matter how accomplished you are as a lace knitter you will find something to inspire you in this book.

A Treasury of Knitting Patterns Without a doubt the definitive book of stitch patterns for the aspiring lace knitter. From the simple to the extraordinary.

French Girl Knits: Innovative Techniques, Romantic Details, and Feminine Designs If you are going to knit lace, why not knit something adorable to wear? Very chic, very elegant. The Celeste pattern is utterly luscious.

Romantic Hand Knits: 26 Flirtatious Designs That Flatter Your Figure Though I'm not fond of a lot of color work in knitting, this book has some clever uses of lace for some genuinely outrageous projects including opera gloves, sassy hats, and some very, very sexy stockings.

Knitting Lingerie Style: More Than 30 Basic and Lingerie-Inspired Designs If you are dying to knit lace but are not up for a full sized shawl or sweater, this is the book for you. Tiny camis, itty-bitty undies, all sorts of lacy, luscious treats --- many that can be knit in an evening.

Beautiful Knitting Patterns Like the Barbara Walker books this one is just patterns but very unique and exceptional patterns. Lace edging, lace inserts and all-over lace --- all of it scrumptious.

Creating Original Hand-knitted LaceA rare find but full of information for designing your own lace. Not for beginners by any means but a genuine challenge when you are ready.

The Mermaid Shawl & other Beauties: Shawls, Cocoons & Wraps This is my contribution to the world of lace knitting. Over a dozen projects, mostly lace, with diagrams and advice on how to take my diagrams and create your own works of knitted lace art. Enjoy.

It is my belief, both as a knitter and a knitwear designer, that every piece of knitted lace should be as beautiful and unique as the knitter who knitted it!
